Interview with Bianca Valerio, A Pesco Vegetarian

*First Posted 8/12/12

Bianca Valerio's friends are Top Filipina Models. Isabel Roces is lacto-ovo, Raya Mananquil is Vegan and Val de los Santos is a Pesco Vegetarian.

When I learned that she went vegetarian and became more energetic I had the chance to ask Bianca about her diet and how did it changed her.

Tell me about your vegetarian diet?

I'm a Pescotarian so I still eat seafood but no meat, whatsoever. Well, I figured, if Jesus fed the people fish, then that means I can, too, right? (Haha! :-)

Megan Fox quits being vegan

When you plan to go vegan or vegetarian you need to do it gradually, because if not you will end up eating meat again for not surviving the transition.

You stop eating meat gradually

It's not an overnight thing specially when you are conditioned to the taste of meat.

Determine your physical capacity and what works for you, the slower the better.

Keep in mind that gradual change is easier for our body and mind.

Megan Fox quit being vegan

Jeman Villanueva shared the scoop that hot actress Megan Fox quit being vegan because she lost too much weight. Thanks for the heads up.

Many celebrities wants to loose weight but Fox thinks her being vegan main reason why she lost so much weight.

Megan Fox has stopped eating any kind of meat for more than a year now.

“For more than 1 year and a half, until about four months ago, I was on a vegan diet based exclusively on fruits and raw vegetables, without bred, sugar and coffee. I lost so much weight” she said.

Ending? she eats everything right now but she is careful as she counts her calories!

” Now I eat a bit of everything and I go to the gym three times a week” Megan Fox also said.

Overcoming Cervical Cancer

The Benefits of donating Blood

One of my happiest experience is that I was able to donate blood for my friend who has a Level 2 Cervical Cancer. I am so happy because I was to able to help her and at the same time my blood was cleansed.

  • Donating Blood every three months is a good for the blood, it cleanses.

I am sad at the same time because of my friend's condition. The least thing I did was advice her to increase eating vegetables so that she gets well and she will surpass her chemotherapy , Level 2 Cervical Cancer is not a joke. I am worried about her even she still smiles and pretends that she is OK. So here are the top women killers:

  • Breast Cancer

  • Cervical Cancer

  • Ovarian Cancer

  • Skin Cancer

*There are 12 fine filipinas that die everyday of cervical cancer.

Upto 80% of women will get the HPV in their lifetime, the virus that causes cervical cancer and within 5 years of diagnosis more than half of the women with cervical cancer won't survive.

What is HPV ?

A human papillomavirus (HPV) is a member of the papillomavirus family of viruses that is capable of infecting humans. Like all papillomaviruses, HPVs establish productive infections only in the stratified epithelium of the skin or mucous membranes. Generally it is caused by major skin contact and in order to prevent cervical cancer we should need to get vaccination. So let us help out cervical cancer . For more information visit : http://www.xoutcervicalcancer.com.ph/

How to prevent cervical cancer:

  • Get regular pap smear

  • Maintain one sexual partner only

  • Tell your one sexual partner only to use a condom during sex

  • Get vaccinated asap

  • No smoking

I am thankful that I was healthy enough to donate blood.

Donating Blood is not easy, it requires good health and you need to pass screening.

The criteria for judging:

  • You need to have normal weight and not sick

  • Normal blood pressure and normal hemoglobin blood count

  • Good eating habit and enough sleep.

  • You don't smoke and drink alcohol

  • No tattoos

  • Not taken drugs

If you pass the criteria, then you are eligible to donate blood like me. Now I realized the good benefits of taking care of my health, I am so positive thankful and happy, woot.

The benefits of donating blood

  • It cleanses the blood, (you can donate every three months)

  • It brings positive impact on the donor’s health.

  • It removes excess iron which can cause free radical formation in the body.

    Yoga Lunch

A few days ago I was surprised that my UPOU schoolmate Jason is now an active member of the Yoga club. He is starting to practice the Yoga lifestyle and he's a neophyte vegetarian.

He invited me to attend Yoga Lunch at Makati Bel-Air this afternoon. First we did yoga asanas and then we had a class on vegetarianism, cooking demo , we had lunch which is purely vegetarian and there was a lecture about Yoga from a bonafide guest speaker.

We learned so much about Yoga. There is something beyond it, which not all people knew.

Yoga is not about exercise but the science of our identity, it explains relationship among people, why people are angry, why they are envious, why I am like this, etc.

It is something that we can do internally that even we encounter problems we will be able to manage it. One way of applying Yoga Lifestyle is through diet. Becoming vegetarian helps in practicing Yoga. I would like to share things that I learned during the lunch.

    How to become vegetarian ?

There are four general reasons why people go vegetarian.

    1. Health , those people who would like to become slim.

    2. Environment, it's a fact that being vegetarian is the best way to contribute to Mother Earth.

    3. Ethics/Morals , there are people who acknowledge that animals also feel the same way, just like you and I , they don't want to get hurt.

    They feel pain.

    4. Religious, some are obliged because meat eating is not allowed in their religion.

Tips on how to succeed in becoming vegetarian.

    1. Have a strong determination

    2. Some people tend to give up becoming vegetarian because they are not determined.

    3. It takes months, years to become vegetarian, so don't rush. Take it real slow.

    4. Survival 101 if you are in a military academy : Rice, Toyo, Peanuts, Dingdong, Nesvita.

    5. Most people are allergic to Eggs and Seafoods, shifting to plant based diet is a better choice.

    Why vegetarianism is Environmental ?

Livestock farming is the largest contributor of environmental degradation in the whole world.

Raising Animals for food can cause:

    • deforestation

    • air and water pollution

    • land degradation

    • loss of topsoil

    • climate change

    • the overuse of resources including oil and water

    • loss of biodiversity

There's so much about Yoga, it includes discipline, ethics, developing one's well being. It is not about exercise alone.

To be a vegetarian is getting sweeter these days!

Someone says Coca-cola and what comes to your mind? Sugar, soda, and all those things doctors and nutritionists say are bad for you. So, you can imagine what a pleasant surprise it was to learn that Coca-cola now has a product that is truly healthy!

I was skeptical, at first. After all, anything with sugar in it can’t be good, can it? But this time, the company that creates the greatest carbonated drink in the world, also matched that record with the healthiest tea drink in the world! It’s the Real leaf Green Tea, using natural green tea leaves with real natural honey. Yup, you read it right, honey. Sweet golden honey is where they get that natural sweet taste, and what can be more nutritious than honey?

It does put me in a bind, because now, I’m trying to decide whether I am still being faithful to my being a vegetarian. Is honey an acceptable food for vegetarians? (Dr. Tam Mateo, the Philippines first Naturopathic Doctor would say yes, after all, he’s a vegan and he uses honey too… although other Vegans would disagree, vociferously in fact…). I am still trying to decide whether it is, but what I am certain is that if it provides the nutritional values in a sweet healthy package, I’m all for it. Come to think about it, since I am a lacto-vegetarian (which means I permit dairy and other animal produce (excepting meat) in my diet), I suppose it should not bother me too much… hehehehe…

What is important to me is that this drink helps me keep perky (the theanine in the tea, and the natural sugar in honey conspire to keep the brain entertained and focused), and helps me sustain my energy levels throughout the day. What else can we expect from a concoction that is derived from the finest tea leaves from Zhejiang region of China, the world’s tea capital? It is because of this quality in this particular tea drink that keeps me going in my work, studies, and hobby (and lets me maintain my sexy looks, as proof of which I attach here a sincerely egotistic and narcissistic photo of myself rising like a male Venus from the cool waters, hahahaha… let viewers beware, drooling and envy is a noted side effect… hehehehee).

And it's impossible to get bored with the drink too, because they have three different combinations! Honey-apple has that apple zest taste, while the honey-lemon has that limey tang. Apple-lychee of course has a different taste altogether, something that can't really be described (well, as one of my literature teacher says, as a writer I have no excuse to run out of words to describe something, so I guess, it might be possible to describe that particular taste… perhaps after taking up 689,000 words and 300 pages of comparative descriptions… )

They said that the test of the pudding is in the eating, so I guess, you’ll just have to try it out for yourselves and see. I have tried the three flavors and decided I can’t describe them enough to satisfy my obsessively OC writer’s mind, so I won’t even try. I’ll just say, I liked it, very much in fact, and encourage you to try it yourself.

Who knows, you might find being a vegetarian quite sweet… with Real Leaf !

Try this unique fresh drink through their new campaign: “Deliciously reviving Real Leaf Green Tea. Real Tea. Real Honey. What's your green tea could be.”

You can follow Real Leaf on Twitter and add them on their Facebook Page
