New Vegetarian Products: UnMEAT

Thank God there's a lot of vegetarian meat options nowadays making plant-based diet easy to practice.

With unMEAT, taste is never compromised! It is as delicious as a regular meat patty, with a similar mouth-feel, making it the best meat alternative for those who are planning to make the switch to a healthier, more sustainable diet. Even better, unMEAT is packed with simple but nutritious ingredients. It is a good source of fiber and protein. It’s also cholesterol-free, trans fat-free, egg-free, and dairy-free.

Here’s the newest meat alternative that looks, tastes and is priced like real meat.

It’s a generally accepted notion that eating healthy means skipping great-tasting food.

Not anymore. Now it’s completely possible to enjoy the best of both worlds as Century Pacific Food Inc. (CNPF), one of the largest branded food companies in the Philippines, unveils its newest brand: unMEAT, a 100% plant-based meat, made tasty from simple ingredients.

Meet unMEAT, the 100% plant-based meat

In the Philippines, unMEAT was first introduced through Shakey’s Pizza’s newest offering, the Goood Burger. It has since attracted a small cult following in the few weeks it has top-billed Shakey’s Pizza chain’s foray to burgers.

Now, as the plant-based food mania continues to sweep the world over, Century Pacific Food Inc., is giving consumers easy access to healthy and tasty 100% plant-based food options as unMEAT is now available via online shopping platforms, and increasingly in supermarkets and specialty stores nationwide.

Following unMEAT’s successful initial rollout as Shakey’s Goood Burger, CNFP will also be partnering with more restaurants in the country.

Additionally, the company’s Global Brands Team has started offering the product to customers across a network of 80 countries such as the USA, Singapore, China and the Middle East giving consumers in many parts of the world easy access to tasty, healthy, and affordable 100% plant-based meat alternative.

This newest addition to our product portfolio further strengthens our mission to provide affordable nutrition for all. UnMEAT is both very affordable and delicious!

Lacto-ovo Vegetarian Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan

Eat. Enjoy. Repeat!

It was great to know the story of fellow vegetarian Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan at the launch of Metamucil, she is the Brand Ambassador of the product - held in Mercato Central, BGC Taguig.

Metamucil is a fiber powder drink
Maricel is a lacto-ovo-vegetarian for 16 years, has been joining triathlon with her family for 9 years and survived her suffering from gallstones.

Turning into vegetarian is a decision she has to make because she was diagnosed that she developed gallstones from eating too much meat.

For women, the risk of forming gallstones increases during pregnancy.

She has to give it up because the day before her surgery they found out that she was pregnant and the only solution is to take a lot of medication if the pain occurs or to completely change her diet.

She decides to completely change to a plant based diet. Here's my short Q & A with Mommy Maricel:

What happened to your gallstone after you went vegetarian?

I couldn't have surgery and I  was able to delay it for four years and because of the vegetarian diet I did not have pains...I did not have medications. I delayed it but eventually I had to take out(surgically)  kasi masyado na maraming stones.

The two children (4th-5th) that I carried while vegetarian has no allergies at all.

Where do you get your food?

We grow our own veggies at home, it's organic and then we cook it. You can check it at my blog
#MyManangRocks  http://www.mommymaricel.com/mymanangrocks-2/ were we put all the food that we harvest and cook.

Can you describe where you plant your food?

It's a far place in Laguna. Sariwa ang hangin. Malamig, mataas...yun ang importante - No pollution.

When her gallstones was completely removed via surgery, she experienced no more problem at all and that is why she wants to help her kidney and liver by being vegetarian.

Her being vegetarian does not impose to her family to become vegetarian specially the kids. For her it's still their choice.

"I don't look down people who eat meat but I do have a special sensitivity towards the animals (chickens, cattle) parang meron akong connection with them" she adds.

Is your Family vegetarian?

You are about to eat with the whole family and they are preparing a meat based dish for everyone.

You are a new vegetarian and they are not used to cook a separate dish for you.

Is your Mom vegetarian? If not, How are you going to survive in a not vegetarian family?

Make your Mom your best friend, she is the queen of the kitchen, she cooks a lot. You can tell her to cook a separate food for you.

Help in preparing the ingredients. Go ahead and cut those garlic, pepper, and the main veggies. By doing this you will now have an idea.

Get a separate part of each, tell your mom to cook this separate part as you wish.

If not, go ahead and do the honor of cooking. You need to research basic vegetarian dish you can cook easily.

Vegetarian Chicken Nugget

[caption id="attachment_4135" align="alignleft" width="300"] Vegetarian Meat[/caption]

Vegetarian Meat is being used to retain the taste and texture of meat.

Not really a meat because it is made from soy wheat. Non difference with the taste depends on how it was cooked.

In Bodhi stores, one of the best fake meat is Vegetarian Chicken Nugget.

Once you taste it you will not say that it's fake because the taste and texture is the same with real chicken nuggets.

This is one way of conditioning one's tongue in giving up meat. I hope can also help those who are having hard time giving up meat thru this guidelines if you want to give up eating meat:

The easy way of becoming vegetarian

Thinking about becoming a vegetarian is easy but giving up your favorite hamburger is hard. The tongue is conditioned to the taste of meat so no matter how you try
getting rid of that conditioned you end up crave for meat again.

Here are some easy steps simple and slow.

Hard things can be done in a slow manner. Try committing yourself to being a vegetarian at least 3 days per week for the first couple of weeks.

For those people becoming vegetarian these days

It is not always true that vegetarians are thin and meat eaters are fat.

The most common reason why people go vegetarian is because they want to loose weight. But I know a lot of vegetarians who's fat. Yes going vegetarian can help you loose weight but you should also do it with exercise.

The good thing about being vegetarian is you develop control and discipline. It is not easy changing diet specially for us Filipinos who are very conditioned to meat. Going vegetarian is easy. There plenty of market and talipapa here.

Give up eating Beef :

This is not hard , because you can still eat pork, chicken and fish. So do this for a month or two. Just make sure that you don’t eat beef anymore straight for a month.

Give up eating Pork :

When you can now give up beef, it’s time to give up pork. You can still eat chicken and fish. It is easier to give up, knowing that pork is the primary cause of diseases. And we all know that it makes us fat since it is very high in bad cholesterol. Do this for a month or two. Just make sure that you don’t eat pork anymore straight for a month.

Give up eating chicken:
What’s wrong with eating chickens ? Well there’s a lot, but anyway you will soon have to give up eating chicken. Maybe this will be hard for you so do this for two months or more , but make sure to give up eating chicken soon.

Do give up eating beef, pork and chicken in a year or two and it will be easier for you to go vegetarian or vegan. Don’t make it hard for you, there will always be an easier way that will help you achieve your goal. Going vegetarian does not end on giving up the food that you are conditioned to eat, it involves mindset, positive thinking, proper hygiene and a healthier lifestyle.
