why people go vegetarian

There are four general reasons why people go vegetarian.

1. Health , those people who would like to become slim.

2. Environment, it’s a fact that being vegetarian is the best way to contribute to Mother Earth.

3. Ethics/Morals , there are people who acknowledge that animals also feel the same way, just like you and I , they don’t want to get hurt.

They feel pain.

4. Religion, some are obliged because meat eating is not allowed in their religion.

Tips on how to succeed in becoming vegetarian.

1. Have a strong determination

2. Some people tend to give up becoming vegetarian because they are not determined.

3. It takes months, years to become vegetarian, so don’t rush. Take it real slow.

4. Survival 101, a friend of mine started going vegetarian when he was in a military academy. His diet? : Rice, Toyo, Peanuts, Dingdong, Nesvita.

5. Most people are allergic to Eggs and Seafoods, shifting to plant based diet is a better choice.

Eat your veggies everyday!

Interview with Bianca Valerio, A Pesco Vegetarian

*First Posted 8/12/12

Bianca Valerio's friends are Top Filipina Models. Isabel Roces is lacto-ovo, Raya Mananquil is Vegan and Val de los Santos is a Pesco Vegetarian.

When I learned that she went vegetarian and became more energetic I had the chance to ask Bianca about her diet and how did it changed her.

Tell me about your vegetarian diet?

I'm a Pescotarian so I still eat seafood but no meat, whatsoever. Well, I figured, if Jesus fed the people fish, then that means I can, too, right? (Haha! :-)

Manage Acne with Papulex!

I am a fan of committing skincare sins, I love eating nuts, I sleep in a wrong way I love to squeeze my pimples and most of the time I am lazy of washing my face. I admit that at one point or another I am guilty of gross habits that aggravate my skin.

Kicking Out Bad Skin Habits

I admit that I am guilty of committing skincare sins and need to be aware of such habits in order to prevent acne from getting worse.

Im vain, I love eating nuts, I sleep in a wrong way and I love to squeeze my pimples. I realize that I have a lot of bad skin habits.

Here's a list of bad skin habits that should be kicked out:

Gel products on your forehead
Most people say that I have good skin, what they don't know is I often get acne on my forehead because I would always apply gel on my hair until some of it goes to my forehead. After a few days acne arises. Tip: Don't rush putting on gel.

Nuts can make you nuts
I love nuts, especially nuts sold in the bus. "Mani, mainit, may bawang, bagong luto...bili na!" vendors would shout.

I've heard advices from friend that one cause of acne is too much eating of nuts. Sometimes it's true sometimes it's nut. Tip: Try greaseless nuts

Irregular change of pillow case
I sleep before 12 midnight lying face down on my pillow every night.
what they don't know about my pillow? I seldom change it's case and it's full of my saliva. :-) Obviously bacteria goes to my face until it aggregates acne. Tip: Regularly change your pillowcase

Squeezing pimple
I love squeezing when I have pimples and I know it's tempting. The act of squeezing a pimple pushes the bacteria deeper into the pores, causing inflammation, infection, and scarring. This is the worst thing that I do. Tip: Avoid temptations

With all these bad habits I still manage to have a good skin because I use a brand that helps me prevent skin acne.

Soon to be revealed!

Problem: Acne is one of the hardest thing to manage.

When acne arises you will do everything just to clear it off. Even the most weird remedy that you can think becomes a great idea and somehow there was a time that you would like to try it .

Acne Sucks! But it is a problem that can be managed

Studies show that Acne is one of the problems that everybody would usually encounter during teenage years. It did happen to me but thank God it didn’t showed up for long. I asked some of my friends about their experiences, some of them experienced it early some of them experienced a bit late.

Eating healthy food is not a guarantee for Acne-free skin

The challenge

I started going vegetarian on 2001 when I joined a mountaineering club when I was in college. I had a group of friends’ who were also vegetarians. I became attracted to their lifestyle and I find it cool at that time.

Nurture Spa is accepting groups—from families to groups of friends on holiday, to members of corporate team-building activities.

Teambuiding package costs 4,000 Php/person and 10,000 Php for the facilitator fee (optional)

I stayed there together with my blogger friends as part of celebrating love and wellness as we search for good health.

There's a lot of things that I learned about the importance of wellness.

  • Stress is the main cause of chronic diseases and it kills people

  • Work causes a lot of stress.

  • When you appreciate things that you have more than things that you don't have your mind can easily adopt that state of being relaxed.

  • There is a great impact on the sense of smell. Aromatherapy is very helpful if you experiencing  a lot of stress.

I also learned that being mindful to what you see around you gives a relaxing effect on our mind. We had an activity; we went to the plantation and we need to mind the things that we see. We need to tell on our mind about the things that we see around.

The most relaxing activity we did was Qi Gong, it is an ancient breathing exercise which was lead by Hannah Holzgreve, an instructor from Germany.

After the Qi Gong activity we did an exercise called Exercise Circuit.

We had a short trek going to Pineapple farm of Nurture Spa before we had our lunch.

A wellness talk by Ms. Cathy Turvill, one of the owner followed after.

And I also learned a lot of therapy that help you feel relax and remove daily stress. During our stay I experienced the following types of therapy

  • Aromatherapy

  • Massage therapy

  • Hydrotheapy

  • Laughter Yoga

  • Vegetarian Food

It is very important to achieve a relax state of mind because it keeps the mind clear at all times which is conducive in maintaining a good health

I was also lucky to experience their facial massage called "dilag" and had a very relaxing sleep.

I feel like I'm in a paradise. One day is not enough for me to experience to good things here.

I will definitely find ways to be able to go back to this very beautiful place.

Global Handwashing Day Educates Country Proper Handwashing

Top officials from various organizations demonstrate proper handwashing during the launch of the multi-sectoral “I Pledge My Hand to Save a Life” campaign spearheaded by Vaseline, which aims to educate 500,000 kids all over the country on proper handwashing in.

Present during the celebration in Shangri La Makati are the following VIPS:

Chito Macapagal, Vice President for Corporate Affairs, Unilever; Rina Lopez Bautista, President of Knowledge Channel; Gina Lorenzana, Vice President for Marketing, Unilever; Timothy Grieve, Chief of Water Sanitation and Hygiene Section, UNICEF; and Merlie Asprer, Operations Manager, Adopt A School.

Like millions of children around the world, the Filipino youth are exposed to harmful bacteria that cause diseases such as diarrhea and respiratory ailments. From getting their hands dirty while playing to touching objects that are contaminated by germs, kids unknowingly get in contact with elements that pose serious threats to their health. Each year, 3.5 million kids worldwide lose their lives due to these preventable diseases.

A clean hand saves lives and the simple act of handwashing with soap is the best and most cost-efficient way to rescue children from a gloomy fate. Thus, Unilever together with international partners UNICEF and the Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing (PPPHW), has been spearheading Global Handwashing Day, an advocacy that aims to create global awareness on the importance of handwashing. Building the momentum it has established over the last five years, Vaseline continues to champion the health of children as it celebrates this year’s Global Handwashing Day on October 15.

Reaching out to more kids
As part of Unilever’s advocacy to build a Billion Better Lives and in line with the 2012 Global Handwashing Day, Vaseline is launching the awareness campaign Pledge Hands to Save Lives.

The movement has mobilized various groups and organizations such as UNICEF, the Department of Education, Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Knowledge Channel, and the Philippine Public Health Association to be part of the cause. This year, the brand aims to educate 500,000 kids all over the country on proper handwashing, on top of the 350,000 kids it has helped for the previous four years.

On October 13, over 1,000 children from Paco Catholic School will be joined by Unilever employees and the Manila City government, as they pledge their handwashing commitment to kick off this year’s series of initiatives for the advocacy.
Through its partnership with Knowledge Channel, the Department of Education, and Department of Social Welfare and Development, Vaseline will also educate hundreds of thousands of children as it visits more than 300 schools nationwide.

Be part of the pledge to save lives
Influencing others to take part in the advocacy is as quick and easy as washing one’s hands. Through the “I Pledge My Hand to Save a Life” website (www.pledgeyourhands.com), Vaseline encourages everyone to make a pledge of teaching another kid on proper and regular washing of hands with soap. At the Vaseline Facebook page (www.facebook.com/Vaseline), users can share with their families and friends photos and videos about handwashing.

“As we celebrate the fifth year of Global Handwashing Day, we hope to make its impact bigger through our increasing number of partners,” expressed Unilever’s Vice-President for Corporate Affairs, Mr. Chito Macapagal. “Unilever products have become part of millions of people’s everyday lives, which only inspires us to strengthen our commitment to care for our consumers especially children.”

The Global Handwashing Day is part of Unilever’s global advocacy under its “Billion Better Lives” program, which seeks to help one billion people worldwide improve their health and well-being by 2012.

The usual eye problems that you might encounter are itchy eyes, blurry vision, tired eyes. And if you do not take care of your eyes you will end up getting blind caused by diseases such as Cataract, Glaucoma and Diabetic Retinopathy.

So it is important that as early as possible you take care of your eyes so you can enjoy a clear vision until you reach old age.
