Empanada Vegetal in Barcino Fort

Barcino is a wine house and Resto along The Fort Global City in front of The Mind Museum.  Located exactly at Unit 101 Forbeswood Heights, Rizal Drive, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig

Wines are usually paired with meat dishes but the good thing about Barcino is they offer interesting food for vegetarians.

During the flood I went to my Mom's pad at Forbeswood Heights and we had dinner at Barcino which is only downstairs where they lived. It was interesting that there's a lot of vegetarian options in their menu.

Because the food is expensive I just had an order of Empanada Vegetal
It tastes really really great, very crispy and the spinach were so fresh.

How to Cook Vegetarian Batchoy

A round of applause to my partner Issa Quintos who made it to the Top 6 among the 14 contenders of Electrolux #Wokaholic Kitchen Star Boot Camp.

She was tasked to cook a Filipino dish na may sabaw. She thought of cooking vegetarian kare-kare but later on she decided to cook vegetarian batchoy, as suggested by her hubby Allen.

Vegetarian batchoy was her personal favorite when she was still a meat eater, but when she learned the vegetarian way of cooking she also learned cooking this kind of dish.

MUSHROOM or MUSHROOM BEEF BURGER?

(CHECKING WHAT YOU EAT)

Are you a vegetarian and a mushroom
lover? You’d better be careful with your mushroom burger!

The MUSHROOM BURGER JOINT, which originated in Tagaytay City, has now branched out in Katipunan, West Avenue, and a stall in Ateneo De Manila University. They offer Mushroom with Beef Burger, Mushroom with Pork Burger, and Mushroom with Chicken Burger. It goes with French fries and drinks of your own choice. I am sure you’ll love the tasty burgers and the delicious French Fries. But if you are a pure vegetarian, a Veggie, it is better for you to
order Mushroom Sandwich because it has no other meat ingredients that veggies tries to avoid.

Don’t be confused with the Mushroom Burger items which were mentioned earlier because
it contains meat and poultry. You might be misled by its name, Mushroom Burger, thinking that it is made of pure mushroom. It was actually a misnomer since the supposed flavor, like beef, chicken and pork was not declared. Its ingredients will only be revealed if you’ll ask the Food Servers. I am sure that the company of Mushroom Burger has no intention of lying or misleading its precious customers.

But if you’re a vegetarian check out the Mushroom Sandwich, it is one of the tastiest if not the best in town.

Stop Eating Out and Make Easy Dinner Recipes Every Night!

These days, families are doing a lot more. Parents are working overtime, and kids are too, at after school tutoring and sports practice. Families barely have enough time to eat dinner, much less prepare it, sit down at the dinner table to eat it, and wash dishes after dinner.

The alternative to eating at home is eating out, which can be pricey and unhealthy. If you’re tired of eating out, you may be wondering how to start eating at home and making easy dinner recipes for your family. If this sounds like you, look no further. Below are five easy
steps you can take to finally start eating family dinner together at the kitchen table.

1. Make sure you always have the basic ingredients to make easy dishes on hand.
You’ll probably want to keep what you need to make macaroni and cheese, chicken
casserole, hamburgers, fried rice, and other well-loved, easy dishes. It’s also
a good idea to always store fresh or powdered garlic, vinegar, Parmesan cheese,
oregano, and baking soda in your pantry.

2. Experiment with staple dishes, so your family never gets tired of them.  Don’t be afraid to
try out new things and get a little adventurous. Just don’t go too far and try
something like putting tuna salad on a pancake!

3. Try out different easy recipes you find online, and figure out what your family
likes. Once you figure out which dishes they like, you can start cooking these often. Look for recipes with a simple, short list of ingredients. These recipes will be easier for you to prepare. You can also think back to what you enjoyed eating with your family as a kid, and try to replicate those meals.

4. Get a crock-pot, a panini grill, and a wok. These cooking appliances are very useful. You can just throw a few ingredients in a crock-pot in the morning, and you’ll have a stew ready for your family to eat in the evening. You can turn an ordinary sandwich into a delicious, hot meal with a panini grill. A wok allows you to easily make delicious and authentic tasting stir-fries that your family will adore.

5. Make it a requirement for each family member to wash his or her own dish. This
will save one person from having to do all the work. Family members can take turns washing pots and pans. Cleaning up doesn’t have to be a time-consuming ordeal, if everyone pitches in.

Keeping your kitchen stocked with the basics
will ensure that you will always be able to make easy dinner recipes for your
family. Cooking can actually be fun, if you allow yourself to relax and experiment with different meal ideas and cooking equipment like a panini grill or a wok.

  2. Boil tomatoes (whole), gabi, sampaloc and salt in hugas bigas. When sampalok is cooked, scoop out. Continue boiling gabi and tomatoes. Mash sampalok in water starin back into the pot (or mash sinigangcubes in boiling stock)

  3. Add sitaw, kangkong stalks and spring onions. Cover and cook then add raddish, cover and cook some more

Powered by Tofu

Thanks to VegCooking.com : Recipe of the Week

for this one yummy email recipe. I confess that I am a tofu lover, and this is a must for us vegetarians - Powered by Tofu.

Garlic-Ginger Tofu Stir-Fry
This mouthwatering Chinese dish is a must-have!
1 small Thai pepper, minced
1 tsp. minced ginger
1 garlic clove, minced
1 Tbsp. olive oil
3 Tbsp. soy sauce
1/4 cup water
1 Tbsp. arrowroot powder or cornstarch
2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
1 16-oz. pkg. firm tofu, drained and cut into 1x1/2-inch pieces
1 tsp. soy sauce
2 carrots, cut into 2-inch strips
1 red pepper, sliced
1 large bok choy (or 4-5 baby bok choy), cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1/2 medium onion, sliced
1/2 cup yellow squash, sliced into 1/2-inch-thick pieces

Cooked lo mein or soba noodles

  • Sauté the minced pepper, ginger, and garlic in the olive oil for 2 to 3 minutes over medium heat. Add the soy sauce and water, stirring until well combined. Stir in the cornstarch and simmer over low heat until the tofu and vegetables are ready.

  • Heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat in a nonstick 12-inch skillet.

  • Add the tofu and cook, stirring frequently (stir-frying), until heated through and browned on all sides, about 10 to 15 minutes. Add the soy sauce and stir-fry for 1 minute. Transfer to a bowl.

  • Add the carrots, red pepper, bok choy, onions, and squash to the skillet and stir-fry until the vegetables are tender but crisp, about 3 minutes. Add the prepared sauce and tofu and stir-fry until all the ingredients are coated and heated, about 2 minutes.

  • Serve immediately over the lo mein or soba noodles.
