Gary Valenciano hailed by doctors as one of the healthiest diabetics alive

AFTER appearing on With Love Gary Valenciano, one of the best music specials produced by ABS-CBN, which not only aired on the Kapamilya Channel but was also replayed on Studio 23 and globally through The Filipino Channel (TFC), Gary V scores yet another victory as he recently conquered the tough New Zealand market.

Despite the lack of TFC in the country, thousands flocked to the concert, proving the strength of Gary in the overseas market. Backstage a Kiwi native who was part of the security said, “I didn’t know who he was but after watching and listening to him, I’m a fan! He is good!” Gary was surprised when a Malaysian fan Ming Lim (wearing a Gary V T-shirt) together with Filipino wife Hazel, of Sydney flew to Auckland just to watch the concert. Performing with him was eldest son Paolo Valenciano, who drew screams and cheers from the 3000-strong audience when he sang his father’s hits like “Babalik ka Rin,” “Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos,” “What More Can I Say,” and “Hang On.” The handsome but shy singer/songwriter is currently a member of the rock band Salamin and occasionally does session lead vocals for Rivermaya. He joined his father and brother music producer/dancer, ASAP ROCKS mainstay Gabriel, in Virginia Beach as they performed in a live full concert at the CBN Grounds last October 1 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of 700 Club USA. Gary has repeatedly shared his testimony and sang on the national television show for over 15 years due to his friendship with Pat and Gordon Robertson. Michael Little, CBN president personally met Gary when he arrived after a 30-hour travel schedule. He has shared his miraculous, personal 33-year battle with Type 1 Diabetes nationwide in the United States because he has been hailed by doctors as one of the healthiest diabetics alive having no complications in his body. His wife, Angeli, has been a member of the Board of CBN Asia and the Operation Blessing Foundation in the Philippines since the NGO’s were established in the early 90’s.

In the mid 90’s Gary has also appeared as the main host for one season of a youth music video show, “One-Cubed,” for 700 Club and taped the series in Virginia Beach, USA.

Recently also, Gary conquered Malaysia as he launched his first Bahasa recording “Ayu,” an adaptation of his self-penned composition, “Fool Till The End.” Together with DIGI, Muzikon and Maximusic Malaysia, Gary and Philippine home recording label, Universal Records, is slated to release his album in October and he will fly again to Malaysia in November for the official launch in Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu. Gary toured television shows like “Hello on Two,” “Breakfast Club,” “Breakfast Show,” among others and conducted interviews and photo shoots with various media. “This is one open door that I would gladly walk through,” Gary stated in a recent interview at the Hard Rock CafĂ© where he had a very impressive media conference. In attendance were Richard Voon of Muzikon, Inc., Universal Records Philippines’ Louie Lizardo, DIGI’s marketing boss Pearlie Lim (who presented Gary with a beautiful gift), and his wife Genesis president, Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano.

With a 28-year stellar career proven by millions of hits on his musical recordings posted officially or unofficially by fans on Youtube and other sites, Gary V continues to tread on various territories victoriously. In television, he has been a regular host of the top-rating weekly musical variety show ASAP ROCKS on ABSCBN. The show with over 60 regular co-hosts, looks up to Gary as their “big brother” and his passion for excellence in his craft has proven to be an inspiration to his younger colleagues in the show. He has recently renewed his contract with ASAP ROCKS and one can expect more exciting numbers from his very own RATED PG (Pure Gary) segment.

In recording, he recently released WITH LOVE GARY VALENCIANO, the album, which was a co-production of ABS-CBN and STAR CINEMA, a STAR RECORDS release of his best-loved teleserye/soap opera and movie theme songs such as the recent classical masterpieces “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin” and “Where Do I Begin (Love Story).” It topped the charts over-all (both local and foreign releases) and continues to enjoy brisk sales in the market. From Mondays to Fridays, daily, for six months, Gary V’s haunting voice could be heard on one of the most successful soap operas in television history. According to one of the series’ lead stars, Amy Austria, “When we would have a hard time emoting in a scene, we would play Gary V’s theme song and we would be motivated to deliver our lines better,” a similar opinion shared by the soap’s lead male, Coco Martin. STAR RECORDS intends to market the album in the Asian region in 2012. On the Universal Records side of his career, his album REPLAY has reached gold and platinum status.

A new album is in the works with Universal Records locally, celebrating a 25-year partnership with the label. Several new endorsements, an inspirational tour, a concert with the Vee family (as they call themselves) with his children Paolo, Gabriel and Kiana, as well as a new movie are all in the pipeline for Gary V for the last quarter of 2011. His fans can log on to www.garyv.com, his GARY VALENCIANO OFFICIAL Facebook site, his Twitter account @4ever_on_faith, his Youtube Gary V TV account, and his Tumbler account garyvsthoughts.tumblr.com.

Fighting Tuberculosis Towards a Healthier Road

Chevron Brings Anti-TB Drive to Manila

Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), marketer of popular Caltex brand of fuels and lubricants, formally launched its “Labanan ang TB Para Tsuper Healthy” anti-Tuberculosis (TB) awareness campaign in Manila today. The launch was highlighted by the unveiling of the Caltex Anti-TB bus which will make the round of the city’s public transport terminals to conduct on-board seminars about TB.

The awareness drive aims to provide public transport drivers, their families, and commuters with accurate information about TB symptoms, prevention, and cure. To strengthen their campaign in Manila, CPI will also hold community-based seminars in Pandacan which is home to Chevron’s terminal.

TB infects 75 Filipinos every day and is the sixth leading killer disease in the country. Worldwide, the Philippines is the 22nd country with the highest number of TB cases while it is second only to China in Asia.

Chevron committed US$5 million to fight TB in the Philippines as the first corporate champion of The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. Since then, almost 8,175 service deliverers have been educated in providing quality TB services. More than 6,144 health care providers were trained in community care and treatment for Multi-Drug Resistant (MDR) TB were provided to about 1,778 patients who were no longer responding to first line anti-TB drugs. MDR treatment costs more than P200,000 for at least 18 months of treatment.

In addition to this financial grant, Chevron Philippines also committed to leverage its network of facilities such as the Caltex service stations as centers for TB information dissemination as part of the awareness campaign. Aside from the TB Helpline number, Chevron will also be providing flyers, posters and hold audio-visual presentations for wide dissemination.

Through its Anti-TB Helpline 381-1010, Caltex established a link between the public and free TB treatment facilities such as Directly Observed Treatment, Short-course (DOTS) centers. People who call the helpline are directed to the DOTS center nearest their residence for assistance.

Dean Gilbert, Area Business Manager Chevron Global Lubricants, said “The Caltex TB awareness campaign is founded on the belief that the best assistance we can give is by empowering people with the right information. By knowing the difference between what is fact and fiction, the fight against TB is already half won. By encouraging our valued customers such as the public transport drivers to know the symptoms of the disease and encourage everyone they know to get an early check up, we believe we can stop the spread of Tuberculosis.”

The campaign had its pilot site in Makati were 1,800 puj drivers and their families where engaged. Chevron is replicating efforts in Manila, this time targeting 2,500 public transport drivers, in partnership with the Manila City Health office and the Federation of Jeepney Drivers and Operators Association of the Philippines (FEJODAP). In Pandacan, where CPI’s terminal is located, CPI will have community engagements with barangays and public schools.

With the help of various stakeholders and supporters of this project, Chevron hopes that this advocacy will help contribute in creating a TB-free Philippines.

So What is Vegan Macrobiotics?

Like them on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/veganmacrobiotics and they will be at Rockwell this weekend!

Is it a different kind of veganism? Does it involve robotics?

None of the above!

What is Vegan Macrobiotics? *a re-post from their Facebook fanpage, just want to share this

Macrobiotics is not a novelty or fad diet created in the 20th century. It is part of the “slow food” movement wherein health benefits occur naturally due to the proper balance of nutrients and energies in food.

For a nutritionally balanced vegan meal, the macrobiotic diet consists of a combination of ingredients which includes whole grains, vegetables, beans & seaweed, as well as seeds & nuts.

The variety and combination of ingredients used in a vegan macrobiotic meal provides all the essential nutrients required to maintain and even improve one’s health.

A macrobiotic meal consists of natural ingredients and when available, organically grown fruits and vegetables. Artificial flavors, chemical additives, preservatives, and highly processed food are not used.

Preservation of food is done naturally through pickling and fermentation.

As a vegan diet, dairy, eggs and other animal-based food products are not used. Only natural and unrefined grain, vegetable and fruit based sugars that have low glycemic index are are used.

HEALTH BENEFITS:

> Cancer prevention
> Balances blood pressure
> Keeps bad cholesterol in check
> Maintains cardio-vascular health
> Maintains healthy blood sugar levels
> Disease prevention
> Anti-aging
> Slimming
> Radiant complexion

The Dangers of Asbestos

The most dangerous case of being exposed to asbestos is Mesothelioma.
If you are working in an area exposed to asbestos you should be warned, you might get this disease and you will regret.

Did you know that Mesothelioma is a kind of cancer that affects the mesothelium – it is the thin, protective membrane that covers our lungs, heart and other internal body organs.

If you are exposed to an asbestos environment, you will probably have this. So you should be careful or might as well avoid it.

Most common patients are factory workers, machinists and mechanics. It is a highly aggressive form of cancer.

It is usually resistant to standard cancer treatments.

As of now, there is no cure for mesothelioma but various clinical trials are studying the disease and several cases of remission have been reported.

In fact, treatments are available that are effective at easing pain, suffering and symptoms, extending life expectancy and generally improving a patient’s quality of life.

Pick it up, Clean it up, Sea Change!

After the recent tree planting activity at The Marikina Water Shed, we did another one as our commitment to Live Positively Philippines!

We had the International Coastal Cleanup held on Saturday, September 17, 2011 in Samal, Bataan.

International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), an initiative of the Ocean Conservancy, is the world's largest single-day volunteer effort to eradicate litter and debris from beaches, inland waterways and oceans.

Globally, beverage-related items contribute 28 percent of items collected during the cleanup, including plastic, glass and aluminum beverage cans, caps and lids.

Despite of the heavy rain and slippery mud, it did not stop us from reaching the coastal area in order clean up.

It is important for us to play a proactive role and help clean up our coastal communities around the world.

There's more activities like this of course with the help of Coca Cola in promoting sustainability to the lives of others.

In 2008, Coca-Cola launched a multi-year partnership with Ocean Conservancy through a $1 million pledge to support the ICC. Last year, more than 26,000 Coca-Cola system associates, their friends and families around the world participated in the ICC, contributing more than 200,000 hours of volunteer time and collecting nearly 400,000 pounds of trash.

At the coastal area, we saw dead fishes floating and that awakened us to give our effort in this activity. It is never to late to help out and save our watershed.

Pollution is a major problem here that is affecting the ocean and the rest of the Earth, too.

Because of too much garbage, it directly affects ocean organisms and indirectly affects human health and resources. Now this goes to the food that we eat specially those coming form the sea.

Oil spills, toxic wastes, and dumping of other harmful materials are all major sources of this.

We should learn more about taking care of the Earth and the rest of it's part because if we will know more about caring for our planet, then definitely we will know more about how to stop pollution.

Our responsibility does not end here. This is our commitment forever.

Let's help clean our sea and watershed. Live Positively!

Do vegetarians get enough protein?

"Huh! You're vegetarian?.............. So where do you get your protein? This has always been the question whenever people knew that I'm vegetarian.

Protein is needed to help the body build strong muscles, repair tissues and maintain an effective immune system.

It is a common misconception that vegetarians does not get enough protein.

And here's the answer - vegetarians who eat fish, dairy products, and/or eggs get plenty of protein.

Actually even a strict vegan can get enough protein by eating enough grains and legumes, which provide a feeling of fullness, along with the necessary quantity and quality of protein.

Do vegetarians get enough protein? Yes, but where
So here's a short explanation:

Vegans get it from soy products, grains and legumes.
Lacto Vegetarians get it from milk.
Lacto Ovo Vegetarians get it from eggs.
Pesco Vegetarians get it fish.

In fact, there is nothing to worry about havng vegetarian children about getting enough protein.

Say for example, teens can get all the protein they need from an egg, a peanut butter sandwich, a couple glasses of milk, a cup of yogurt, or a black bean burrito.

So do vegetarians get protein? Yes, enough protein.

Warning : Be Careful When Crossing the Street

Last Wednesday Cherry Mae Lagumbay
died after being hit by a vehicle along Ortigas Avenue in Pasig City.

There were information that her office is located at Robinsons Equitable Tower, where Pacific Hub and Convergies is located.

According to ABS CBN news :

The victim, Cherry Mae Lagumbay, was crossing the road when a red Mazda hit her. The driver flew the scene.

Due to the impact, the grille was detached from the car. Shattered glasses were also found at the scene.

Witnesses suspect Lagumbay did not notice the incoming vehicle because she was on the phone.

So be careful when you cross the street, Ok?

After few days almost same accident happened to hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon, according to TMZ:

84-year old woman ticketed for hitting Reese Witherspoon in a crosswalk just got slapped with another stiff penalty -- she's been ordered to the DMV to retake her driver's test.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... Santa Monica police have asked the DMV to haul in the elderly driver for a full re-examination within the next 30 days. In addition to the driver's test -- we're told she will have to take an eye exam, and provide a list of medications she's taking.

The woman was already cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk ... but making anyone -- much less an octogenarian -- stand in line at the DMV is a punishment that sticks with you.

So Warning: Be careful When Crossing the Street

Achieving Total Fitness

25% of people who sign up for the gym start dropping out within their first 6 to 8 weeks?

“We understand how difficult it can be for some to exercise regularly so we’ve developed various ways to keep our customers engaged to be fit”, shares 360 Fitness Club Head Coach and fitness expert Christopher Callanta. “For as quick as only half an hour, we provide you a total body workout that’s practically equivalent to an hour’s exercise in a traditional gym setting.”

And to top it all off, this number goes up to 52% after 6 months. Only around 35% of people who begin to exercise at the gym really stay for 9 months or more. So why do so many people leave? Well, most of these dropouts attribute their loss of interest to exercise to several reasons (some of which you may have heard or experienced on more than one occasion).

Usually, there’s boredom. The decision to start exercising and get fit almost always starts off on the right foot. There’s the willingness to try out new things and the determination to push the body further. However, daily long runs on the treadmill and lifting of various weights within the 4 walls of your gym can become tiresome and routinary.

What’s more, if you’re doing it alone, the difficulty increases as the mind convincingly tells the body it’s too lazy to get moving. Motivation falls short and before you know it, you’ve completely forgotten to exercise.

Then, people’s busy schedules make it difficult to find time to hit the gyms. 10 minutes to warm up. 30 minutes on the treadmill. 30 minutes doing weights. 15 minutes on the bike. 15 minutes to stretch and cool down. Let’s face it, spending time at the gym does exactly that—eat up your time. People can barely squeeze in a proper meal during their lunch breaks so how much more finding additional time for a simple work out?

And finally, the impatience to achieve results within a short time (and not succeeding) leave some people discouraged and frustrated. Eventually, they just stop altogether, often wishing that there was some other quick fix they could avail of.

Well, what if there was a particular fitness center that was diverse enough to keep you constantly engaged, challenged and inspired, all the while requiring only 30 minutes a day still guaranteeing results? As the country’s first co-ed express fitness facility, 360 Fitness Club proves to be more than just your traditional gym. Their exercise philosophy revolves on providing people with fitness opportunities that are non-traditional, efficient and most importantly, effective. With the use of free weights, kettle bells, cables, exercise balls and many other exercise accessories, the club developed the 360 Circuit, which consists of 20 exercise stations that combine cardiovascular and strengthening exercises – a total body workout that will make members, tone, shape up and burn an average of 500 calories in a total of just 30 minutes each day.

Members of 360 Fitness who complete the circuit claim to have improved balance and performance in their daily activities. And thanks to the club’s other programs like the Jungle Gym Suspension Training classes, participants find their strength and flexibility improving dramatically after just a few classes. “We offer numerous exercises in a Jungle Gym Suspension Training class, where one simply has to adjust their body position to adjust the resistance and intensity of the exercise”, shares Christopher, “It can be a bit of a challenge at first but the results and the feeling you get after attending a class are amazing!”

“Traditional gym workouts take longer because they usually use machines and work out only one muscle group at a time while our suspension training classes, just like our circuit, work out the entire body in one session,” Managing Director Joana Piñon adds. To keep their members constantly motivated, 360 Fitness Club also offers a wide range of group exercise classes. “We believe that variety keeps people from getting bored so we’ve introduced several classes that you won’t normally see in other gyms and fitness centers.” And true enough, where else would you find pole dancing classes taught by The Polecats, the country’s premier pole dancing group? Zumba, the only Latin-inspired dance fitness program that is now being offered in over 125 countries, is also available. 360 Fitness Club also offers yoga, suspension training, kickboxing and running classes, with many more new classes to be introduced.

Whereas in most fitness centers, the members are left to do their exercises alone, 360 Fitness guarantees guided workouts aimed to also motivate and inspire rather than just mere demonstration of the exercises. Coaches are there to act as mentors, constantly challenging their members to push themselves. Other value-added programs to help clients reach their fitness goals are also in the works. “We’re working on developing a fitness diary for members to keep track of their calorie intake and expenditure, as well as providing special podcasts for them to learn about tips and how-to’s on exercise and nutrition,” shares Joana excitedly. “We’re really here as fitness partners of our members to help them get in the best shape possible. And that means providing different means of support all the way,” adds Christopher.

A year after the success of the first branch in Ortigas, 360 Fitness Club will launch their second branch in Makati this July. The pioneer club is already enjoying a growing number of clientele who have all bought into the philosophy of fitness that is indeed proving to be non-traditional, efficient and effective. More and more members are attesting to visible results both physically and mentally even in a period of just 4 to 6 weeks. Some have experienced weight loss even without an accompanying diet, others are proclaiming better productivity in their daily activities thanks to an increase in focus, strength and stamina.

Whatever your fitness goals are, 360 Fitness Club recognizes that it’s never easily achieved when done alone. As partners and experts in fitness, the club’s objective is to ensure that their members are constantly motivated, inspired and guided in order to reach these goals. Going beyond the physical exertion and making the entire experience a mental challenge and a way of life, 360 Fitness Club redefines what total fitness is all about and gives people that much-needed push to just keep on going.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids Prevent Heart Disease
Omega -3 is an essential fatty acid that you need to get from your diet because your body cannot produce it on it's own. Omega-3 is an essential component of cell membranes whose role is to absorb essential nutrients and expel unnecessary waste products. It also serves as building blocks for repair and healing of body cells.

Without Omega-3 , the cells cannot function at their best and this may lead to certain conditions.

Fish oils are a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, in particular eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The essential fatty acids from fish oil are important for heart health
.Medical research shows that consumption of Omega 3 oils can help maintain healthy cholesterol levels in healthy individuals.

The Benefits of Omega 3

Omega 3 is something that you take and gives protection from heart attack and stroke.

Terms you should know

EPA or eicosapentaenoic acid is a kind of Omega-3 fatty acid which helps decrease inflammation and pain in patients with arthritis, because of its potent anti-inflammatory properties.

DHA or docosahexaenoic acid is another Omega-3 fatty acid that is found heavily in brain tissue. It maintains healthy brain function, help in brain development and improve memory in both children and adults

Sanofi- Aventis , makers of Cenovis Fish Oil has recently launched the Omega-3 Academy Asia, anewly formed professional body of mechanical experts comitted to increasing awareness and understanding of Omega-3.

Speaking about Omega 3, today’s fast paced living exacts a heavy toll on the body. As we strive to keep up with life’s daily grind, we often do not have enough time to prepare healthy meals, which consequently causes our health to suffer.

The National Institute of Health's website, Medline Plus says, "Omega-3 fatty acids reduce pain and swelling." How? Omega 3 fish oil fatty acids, particularly EPA, are involved in your body's inflammatory response and inflammation cycle. Relieving the inflammation (swelling) will help reduce the pain.

Studies show that awareness and understanding of Omega-3 among Asian consumers is significantly lower than in Western nations such as Australia, the United Kingdom and the USA, where consumer awareness has been high for over 20 years.

being a vegetarian does not make you gay

If you think being vegetarian makes you gay, then you're wrong. A gay person is weak, but vegetables makes you a stronger person. So it does not make a guy become less of a man.

When you're eating vegetables, the stronger you become. The word "Strong" is meant for men.

If you're gay and weak, the more you are prone to stroke and perhaps other cardiovascular diseases. If you eat too much meat you become weaker.

But if you eat a lot of vegetables, then you become stronger.

Whatever makes you stronger, the more it makes you more men.

So are you man enough? Eat your veggies now!
