Sarap ng Pasko sa Eden

The Longest Christmas Celebration

“It is very evident that Filipinos get an early excitement for Christmas time whatever situation they may be in,” Kraft Foods Philippines’ Category Marketing Manager Alex Dan Tacderas shares. “That is why we wanted to embody this excitement and bring the entire nation together for Christmas.

like many other Filipinos, I started imbibing in the Christmas spirit early this year. In fact, as early as September, I was already in the Christmas mode, jumping right in on the campaign for "One Nation to Start the World’s Longest Christmas Celebration", which was spearheaded by Kraft Eden Cheese. Under this program, some 100 towns nationwide were asked to cook dishes with Eden Cheese to represent their town as part of the world's longest celebration. Being always invited to these events, I found myself having gained some pleasurable pounds, what with all the good food that the campaign generated.

" Filipinos love Christmas, and this is probably why they want to celebrate and prolong it as much as possible, we want to impart a greater sense of community and oneness among Filipinos" shares Anna Sapitan, Sr. Brand Manager of Kraft Eden. I salute Kraft Eden for doing this, this kind of activity promotes goodwill which is one of the filipino traits we are known for.

I was there when they put up the giant Christmas Tree in SM Mall of Asia. That Christmas Tree represented all the 100 towns who participated in this celebration. all these naturally emphasized the Filipino's natural love and passion for food, and it succeeded in bringing the entire nation together to share the tastiest dishes this Yuletide season.

After the long series of food trips, there was finally an end to the longest Christmas campaign, with the awarding of Mandaluyong City, who became the 9th placer of this celebration . Chef Celina David introduced us the winning recipe called the Turon Cheese. a new kind of concoction putting an altogether new twist to the beloved classical banana toron with unbelievable cheezy goodness. It's made up of Gabi, Malunggay, Kalabasa, Cheese and Corn all wrapped together in rice paper. It so natural and it's ingredients are really filipino.
The Top 9 winning recipes (and towns) are:

Guimbal, Iloilo- Pininyahan Manok with Cheese
Camiling, Tarlac- Cheesy Carbonara con Chicharon
Loboc, Bohol- Cheese crab and Young coconut with Kangkong
Binan, Laguna- Topazzo
Malabon City – Pancit Malabon with Cheese crackling
Paranaque City- Shaggy Cheesy Roll
San Miguel, Bulacan- Filled Katuray ala Keso en Tuna
Muntinlupa City- Kraft Malunggay Fettuccine
Mandaluyong City – Trio Cheeze Delight

The Sarap ng Pasko 100 Days of Christmas gives away 2 million pesos in infrastructure and projects to winning Eden Town. Alex Tacderas, Kraft Eden brand manager is very pleased that the pubic really had great time in bringing it's values and tradition thru participating in this grand celebration.

Its good how Kraft Eden keeps on bringing meaning to the lives of others. This celebration symbolizes the strong relationship the Filipinos had, I think we all deserve a recognition for doing this. It's nice to know that when you search "longest celebration" in search engines sites. Top results are coming from Philippine articles sharing their stories about the beauty of our culture and tradition.

My experience at Sonya's Garden

Sonya's Garden Restaurant & Country Bed and Breakfast

Buck Estate Alfonso, Cavite

I just came from Tagaytay with my family except my brother. We went to the famous Sonya's Garden, the home of organic lifestyle known for it's best food and massage. It was a great day to start the week and the holidays.

I had my jacket with me because I know that I'm gonna chill in Tagaytay. Alright, so we went there and we had our brunch. We were not so familiar with the system because we were all first timers. So here it goes, when you enter Sonya's Garden, a personnel will assist you to it's dining area or to the spa. Along dining area you are not going to order for your food because it's an Eat all you can, and that's the way it is. And the meal is make your own process starting from salad, pasta and then dessert. It's all organic, and all items refillable. I was like a goat, everything there was green leaves surrounded by dressings, fruits and garnish. And so I became a goat eating those fresh picked leaves, oh yeah! And the pasta was fettuccine with white and red sauce, I didn't bother to ask what was that made of I know everything was organic, and the good thing about organic food is it's more plant based, though there's a meat option but only chicken and it's an optional separate order. Wow that make sense huh! I was already full after the pasta. But wait there's more dessert: turon, sweet ca mote and chocolate cake, above all I enjoyed the tarragon tea.

Here's the details of Sonya's Garden Menu for Lunch or Dinner:
Php 610/person , it's a set meal, Eat all you can!

  • Garden Salad Greens (create your own salad of:)

freshly harvested lettuce and aragula topped with mango, broad beans, eggs, cucumber, jackfruit, pineaapple and white local corn or whatever fruits that are in season. Drizzled with Sonya's secret salas dressing or balsamic vinegar/ extra virgin oil.

  • Bread

Fresh baked whole wheat sesame bread with an array of homemade dips: basil, pesto, white cheese, anchovies, bruschetta tomato toppings, mushroom pate, black olive tapinade

  • Pasta

with two kinds of sauces and toppings: sun dried tomato and chicken cream with mango. Topped with ratatouille, salmon belly, shitake mushrooms, black olives, capers and grated Parmesan cheese.

  • Dessert

glazed sweet potato, banana rolls, smashing sinful homemade chocolate cake from panaderia

  • Beverage

Bottomless dalandan juice and tarragon tea

I will never forget this kind of experience. I am planning to go back here using my bike. Eating for good health is a positive way of maximizing your energy. Health is wealth and it's worthless. *We should treasure our health and live the positive way. It brings happiness for you and for the people around you.

The Health Benefits of Stairs

When I'm in buildings and I need to climb 2-3 floors up, or whenever I have a chance, I use the stairs instead of using elevators. Why ? Because using stairs is good for the health. It's exercise which is good for the lungs and the legs. It may not be as fast as the elevator but it has worthy benefits.

Health benefits of using stairs:

  • it is considered a work out, it burns calories

  • conditions the heart, lungs and blood vessels.

  • it is in harmony towards good attitude and positive outlook, above all it builds confidence

  • increases the stamina and energy for physical activities

  • develops independence

  • strengthens and tones the muscles

  • less pressure activity

Bike and Blog

It's the 23rd day, I just came back from a bike ride - West Avenue going to Quiapo. As part of my habit I do biking for physical fitness.

Last tuesday was the UP group's adidas nation run, I attended the fun together with the running bloggers that I know, only few that I know.

Then yesterday Wednesday, Jayson encouraged me to swim so I joined with pleasure.

This time, it's a solo flight, loner ever, as in alone. Yeah I went biking alone.

Approaching Araneta Avenue I started to take photos of the road scene, I saw Puregold and it was awesome.

[caption id="attachment_954" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Biking on a highway is dangerous, it needs great courage, pure courage!"][/caption]

Mabuhay, whoa I'm still alive !

Anne Curtis is like a goddess, and Paloma is like a demigod. They both dominate the road of Lacson St.

Anne's slogan says drink for a Healthy Lifestyle, check out her billboards and you will say YES!

In my heart, Anne Curtis is an ambassador of healthy living, woot woot !

Home Along the Riles. Stop here when the train comes!

Woot Woot here!

I stopped at UST and found some two sisters. I said "Hey soul sister!" he-he.

[caption id="attachment_962" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="UST is the oldest existing university in Asia"][/caption]

While in UST, there was a bulb above my head it says "This is a perfest setting for a movie" but only in my dreams. I woke up and continued biking.

[caption id="attachment_964" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Photos by Carl Valenzona using Nokia C3"]l[/caption]

I also stopped at Quiapo Church, one of the tourist attraction here in the Philippines because of the Black Nazarene and it's miracles.

And this was my last stop, my real agenda why I went to Quiapo. Watch the video after the jump.

Look Who’s Switched to Real Leaf, Four Real

Spotted: Four of the country’s biggest stars from rival networks recently caught joining forces and making the big switch! Who are they and what caused this groundbreaking union? The revelations will make jaws drop. For real.

Of course, this breakthrough alliance was only made possible by a “mastermind” that is just as inventive. In fact, it has opened a whole new chapter in the tea beverage industry by letting us experience its deliciously reviving* fusion of real tea and real honey. Yes, the drink that always keeps things fresh and exciting, Real Leaf Green Tea!

Now that we know the mastermind, it’s time to find out who its latest recruits are! Without question, they are Philippine entertainment’s cream of the crop, the most sought after and the most captivating charmers of today. We adore the characters they portray; we love the true persons that they are off cam. Four individuals who are making the choice to be deliciously revived; four powerhouse names who are now proudly keeping it real with Real Leaf— Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, KC Concepcion and Piolo Pascual.

Who knew such history-making coming together could ever happen? Well, Real Leaf did and it’s its biggest surprise to date. As this great year ends, our most loved idols are standing up as one to shake things up and make a big shout out for us to level up our typical green tea. They’re all making the big switch to the one that is expertly brewed, made only of the highest standards and packs the wholesome benefits of refreshing real tea and the natural goodness of real honey lusciously infused with fruit flavors in one great-tasting bottle- Real Leaf. All these make up for the unique fusion that helps revive both mind and body.

Last December 7, 2010 in Whitespace Events Hall in Makati City, Real Leaf held a grand get-together party to formally welcome its four new ambassadors. Renowned personalities and press partners attended the highly anticipated affair hosted by Monster RX 93.1 DJ Gino Quillamor and TV host Phoemela Baranda. The fun-filled bash culminated to a bottle signing with the brand officials and the ambassadors, which officially unveiled them as the new faces of Real Leaf.

No doubt, there’s always something fresh and extraordinary to expect with Real Leaf. In much the same way it has brought unexpected twists in green tea with its delicious blend of real tea and real honey, it has once again made possible a groundbreaking union of the best of the best. Sharon Tanganco, Hydration and Tea Category Director of The Coca-Cola Company shared her excitement over the coming of the four A-lister celebrities to the Coca-Cola family. “We couldn’t have made a more fitting choice for our dream team of brand ambassadors. We believe all four of them have uniquely real, vibrant and dynamic personalities. Plus, they all live uncompromising and healthy lifestyles. In today’s fast-paced, physically taxing and highly stressful world, just like the regular Filipino, they need to restore balance, recharge and refuel themselves to keep up and keep going. Real Leaf is all-natural, all real – it is not only made from natural green tea leaves but is also deliciously blended with the natural goodness of honey. It’s the one-of-a-kind combination that helps revive both mind and body, made even more luscious by infusing fruit flavors – perfect for people who would never settle for less than what they deserve.” she said.

With Real Leaf ending this year with a bang with its stellar league of new ambassadors in the name of Marian, Dingdong, KC and Piolo, we could only expect the coming year to be even bigger and certainly full of real, reviving surprises!

the minute maid pulpy

Happy, Pulpy, Healthy!

I am one of those jumping on the healthy bandwagon. Health matters most, that’s why these days, before we even put anything in our mouths we tell ourselves, “Wait…is this good for my health? Will this make me fat?!”
Someone says Coca-cola and what comes to your mind? Sugar, soda, and all those things doctors and nutritionists say are bad for you. So, you can imagine what a pleasant surprise it was to learn that Coca-cola now has a product that is truly Happy, Pulpy and healthy. And part of my lifestyle is being conscious about the food that I eat and refreshments that I drink.

Thing is, most stuff that’s good for your health don’t exactly taste as good as those that aren’t exactly the most healthy stuff around. So when I find something that’s healthy and tastes really good, I spread the good news around. We all need it, after all.

And this is my newest dig: Minute Maid Pulpy. Oh Yeah!

That’s bottled juice—tastes like fruit alright, but for sure that’s loaded with tons of bad stuff like preservatives! Hold on to your seats, because Minute Maid Pulpy has NO PRESERVATIVES ADDED. Whew! Say goodbye to fears of allergens…or worse, those harmful stuff which not only hinder our cells’ ability to rebuild them, but could even cause deadly diseases like cancer.

Now, I drink it every chance I get :
• When I’m doing exercise.
• Snacking at the office.
• Having lunch with some friends.
• Even during dinner.

It just feels good to know that you’re satisfying your taste buds while keeping your body healthy.

Cheers for a healthy lifestyle !

The latest and newest zipline opened in Metro Manila (Ortigas area). The place opened just this June 11, 2010 , costs Php400 per trip. The place opens at 2PM until 10PM.

It was a good day for us, not so sunny and not so much cloudy, perfect for a physical fitness and adrenaline rush.

Vegetarian Celebrities at PLDT TelPad

A few days ago PLDT TelPad was launched and I saw a lot of Vegetarian Celebrities like Isabel Roces, Raya Mananquil, Bianca Valerio, Sandra Seifert, and RJ Ledesma was also there. Here are some videos I took during the event.

Every trend like games and technology can be experienced here in the new PLDT TelPad. One of the interesting features of TelPad that I like is the game Angry Birds. I enjoyed watching Angry Birds played here.

The PLDT Telpad signals PLDT's entry into the digital age.

PLDT landline was my bestfriend a long time ago and during that time I always do telebabad. That time there's no other way to enjoy communication other than using the PLDT landline.

Fast Relief with Drixine

Drixine Nasal Spray: The Faster Way to Relieve Clogged Nose

When bothered by clogged nose, there's no need to wait for an hour to get relief! Now there's a faster way to relieve stuffy nose in minutes with Drixine Nasal Spray!

Drixine Nasal Spray is a nasal decongestant that provides fast relief from clogged nose associated with colds, sinusitis, hay fever and other respiratory allergies in as little as five minutes.

It contains 0.05% Oxymetazoline, a direct acting ingredient proven to immediately decrease the inflammation and swelling of the nasal passage allowing air to pass through more freely.

Clinical studies have proven that Drixine works faster than an oral decongestant*. Oxymetazoline is proven to reduce nasal stuffiness in as quickly as 5 minutes compared to an oral decongestant* that may take up to 60 minutes to take effect.

One application of Drixine provides up to 12 hour relief from nasal congestion whereas oral decongestants need to be taken 4 times a day.

For immediate relief from clogged nose, simply spray Drixine two to three times into each clogged nostril, morning and evening. It is strongly advised not to exceed the recommended dosage and to stop using Drixine beyond three days.

Drixine Nasal Spray is formulated for adults and children six years and above.
Drixine is (the local trademark for) Afrin, the global brand leader in nasal spray decongestant from MSD.

personal accident insurance

Research says that vegetarians live longer compared to meat eaters. But there is no guarantee in life, a vegetarian or a meat eater can die anytime soon. So it is also important to prepare for death. Here are some ways on preparing for death :
1. Accept the fact that there are four stages of life : Birth, Disease, Old Age and Death
2. Know your real identity. This topic is sensitive
3. Research says that vegetarians live longer, so if luckily you don't get killed by an accident you can consider becoming a vegetarian.
4. JAPAN: Just Always Pray At Night
5. Purchase a Pinoeer Sparx Max insurance
Pioneer Life, has just launched one of its latest promos for one of their products called Sparxx Max.

Sparxx Max is "bite-sized insurance and savings" because it is the easiest and most affordable insurance plan ever! For just the low price of P550, Sparxx Max is an insurance plan that offers PHP100,000 for personal accident insurance coverage, PHP50,000 for cash burial assistance benefit – all good for an entire year, plus PHP300 start-up savings with guaranteed interest.

And this Christmas, they are going all out with "The Sparxx Max Christmas iPad Giveaway" where they give out 12 iPads to 12 lucky winners.

Pioneer Life's Sparxx Max launches "The Sparxx Max Christmas iPad Giveaway"

Is your Christmas wish list empty?

With barely a hundred days before "the most wonderful time of the year", have you even thought about what to get for your friends and family members? What if we told you that you could get them the best gift ever and an awesome gift for you as well?

Yes, this sweet deal is possible because Pioneer Life's Sparxx Max has just launched "The Sparxx Max Christmas iPad Giveaway" - one of its newest online promos where twelve (12) lucky people get a chance to win an iPad out of the 12 iPads that Pioneer is giving out this Christmas!

So mark your calendars! Because from December 1, 2010 to January 7, 2010, Pioneer’s Sparxx Max will be raffling off 12 iPads! That means we’re giving 12 VERY lucky winners 12 iPads every week for 12 awesome weeks! All you gotta do is make a minimum purchase of initially two (2) Sparxx Max insurance in order to secure a raffle entry for the promo. Does it end there? Of course it doesn't! If you decide that you want MORE entries (for a lot more chances of winning) then go ahead and splurge on more Sparxx Max insurance and give them to all your friends and family members! And it’s a lot easier after your first purchase since one additional entry is already equal to one Sparxx Max purchase.

Now the next question is, "Where do I sign up for Sparxx Max?" Well we made sure to make it extra convenient and easy by allowing you to make purchases online or offline. When we say online, we're talking about Sparxx Max’s official website and the Pioneer Life’s website. We're also on Facebook! Look for “Pioneer Sparxx” and “Like” us! You could also buy Sparxx Max on Facebook as well as receive updates on the contest. Sparxx Max is also available offline - just drop by selected 7-11 branches or any of our Pioneer offices.

Registration for the iPad raffle is super easy! If you purchased Sparxx Max online, then you don't even have to worry about registering because YOU ALREADY ARE! To those who made offline purchases don't fret! All you have to do is hit up the Sparxx Max Facebook page and register there.

my intention to volunteer for a cleanup

I am planning to organize a clean up activity and I would like to encourage my fellow students to join. As way of expressing our care for the environment, I hope that we can be a good example in our own way.

Dear Dr. Gregorio,

I, together with my fellow UPOU students, would like to express my intention to volunteer for a
cleanup activity after the UP Lantern Parade on 18 December 2010 (Saturday), from 8 am to 5
pm. As per Campus Maintenance Office’s (CMO) advice on how we can help in maintaining the
campus cleanliness after this activity, this is the date that was suggested to me. This is our way
of expressing our care for the environment.

Attached is a list of students and how long they are willing to help in cleaning up the campus.
I will be encouraging more students to participate in the future cleanup projects.

Your approval will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Visiting the University Physicians Medical Center

My first visit in UPMC

When I’m in UP Manila near the Supreme Court area, I will make sure to drop by in PGH to buy a green burger and a lemon grass tamarind juice. It’s the only place I know where I can buy vegetarian friendly stuffs. It’s near the building where OPD and the chapel are located. And the last time I went there I found this new building which offers the newest trend when it comes to healthcare.  A few days ago I had the opportunity to visit this building I am talking about.

Near the PGH pharmacy is UPMC – University Physicians Medical Center, which is now open from Mondays through Fridays, from 6 am – 8 pm and during Saturdays 6 am – 6 pm.  And it is located at UPM-PGH Faculty Medical Arts Building along Taft Avenue, Manila. When you enter PGH just turn left at the pharmacy area, then you will see the building. It will be easier if you will be coming from the LRT side.

The University Physicians Medical Center (UPMC) is a multi-specialty outpatient facility designed as a one-stop center catering to the private ambulatory clientele of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).

With all new state of the art medical facilities UPMC has the following services:

  • Ambulatory Operating Room

  • Cardiovascular Service

  • Laboratory

  • Nuclear Medicine

  • Neuro-Rehabilitation Service

  • Pharmacy and Convenience Store

  • Pulmonary Service

As far as I know there will be more services to be added as part of its expansion.

Jojo, a friend of mine told us that UPM-PGH Faculty Medical Arts Building is a project joint undertaking of the University of the Philippines, the lessor, and the Mercado General Hospital, Inc. / Daniel Mercado Medical Center (DMMC), the lessee, to convert, rehabilitate, develop and operate the old Dispensary Building as the UPM-PGH Faculty Medical Arts Building.

From my perspective, I think it will strengthen the role of UP Manila as the leading Health and Sciences Center and enhance the role of PGH as the National University Hospital.

Sooner or later he FMAB might pave the way for the geographic private group practice of profession of PGH doctors and other health professionals. In a geographic set-up, the proximity of the doctor’s clinic to the university makes the doctor readily available for student-related learning activities. This arrangement will enhance the learning experience of the students of the UP College of Medicine and other health degree granting units.

This is the first health care team to apply the group practice concept, which is already proven in the states. Just like a lawyer practice group, this concept is systematically initiated by a gatekeeper. I learned all these information from UPMC President and CEO Edwin M. Mercado, MD.

According to Dr. Mercado, UPM-PGH does not have an institutionalized outpatient private practice for its doctors. UPM-PGH FMAB will cater to the market not adequately served by the UPM-PGH, but served by the numerous clinics and diagnostic facilities along Taft Avenue. These are the broad B and C segment of the market that are budget-conscious paying out-patients who need affordable but modern diagnostic and medical laboratory facilities and who are outside the client profile of the more upscale medical centers.

So far, the current HMOs that UPMC has tie up are the following:

  • East West

  • Asia Life

  • Educare health insurance

Soon will be Philhealth and Medicare

UPM-PGH FMAB will officially be launching this coming January 10, 2011, in case I’ll get invited I am planning to bike from Quezon City going here.

The Seasons of Love

Aside from doing physical fitness we should also be alarmed about health problems such as AIDS.

The seventh day of Christmas I went to Rockwell Powerplant for the press screening of Rent The Musical

*Thank God we have no adidas nation run so I was able to attend this event.

*Ferdie noticed that I am getting thinner and I said I am training so much in running so that I can participate in marathons.

And speaking about AIDS, RENT the musical is a story that will give a different point of view when it comes to health problems, and that is AIDS awareness. Here's the original cast of RENT the musical during their first run Gian Magdangal leads the cast as Roger Davis, a songwriter who is an HIV positive, with Fred Lo as Mark Cohen, an independent filmmaker and Roger's roommate and Nicole Asensio (Sheree understory) as Mimi Márquez, an exotic dancer with HIV.

Based on Giacomo Puccini’s LA BOHEME but set on the Lower East Side of New York City, RENT is the story of young bohemians Mark, Roger, Maureen, Tom Collins, Angel, Mimi, Joanne, and their friends, all-struggling to create and survive during the rise of a mysterious, deadly disease — AIDS. Socially relevant, youthful, and moving, RENT lives on, along with the affirmation that there is “no day but today.”

Real Leaf Launches New Ambassadors

My favorite Refreshing Drink Real Leaf Green Tea Launches it's New Ambassadors :

Piolo Pascual

KC Concepcion

Dingdong Dantes

Marian Rivera

The launching party was held at the Whitespace Events Hall in Pasong Tamo Makati City and was attended by so many press and media personality from the mainstream and online community. The veggie blogger was not able to attend because he has no money for pamasahe so just decided to stay home and will just ask Mark Cerbo to allow him grab pictures for blog purposes. But maybe the PR company will be sending some press materials so regardless of the circumstances there's still a chance that Real Leaf's New Ambassadors will be featured here. Will keep you posted soon. Cheers!

Sustainable Packaging

This is the sixth day of Christmas, I decided to walk around UP diliman to get news about the upcoming UP Lantern Parade. Upon walking I found a belen made from recycled bottles of Coke and Sprite, I was so impressed by the concept. It reminded me of Live Positively Pillar Sustainable Packaging, which promotes packaging to be seen valuable resource as future use. I am going to share this to Cheftonio for inputs. *The belen I found was made by UP College of Education Students

Regarding the UP Lantern Parade, it will be held this coming December 17 and parade will start at 4 pm.

Nike Run Manila 2010

Nike Run Manila 2010 5km

The fifth day of Christmas I went to the Nike Run Manila 2010 together with my friends Mark, Marco, Miles , Luan, Hannah and Pam. Nike Run Manila 2010 was held at The Fort Global City and was organized by Nike and Coach Rio dela Cruz. Running has been my habit and I support the promotion of active healthy lifestyle thru physical fitness such as running. Coach Rio said that nowadays, people spend much time on computers that's why he organizes running events like this for a change and also to have an activity that will promote an active healthy lifestyle. I would like to thank my friends Mark, Marco, Miles , Luan, Hannah and Pam for encouraging me to run because this activity makes a difference to the lives of others by setting a good example. So I also encourage everyone to run and be healthy. Here's a video during the race.
