Definitions of Vegetarians

There's a lot of COMMON QUESTIONS TO VEGETARIANS who first finds out that I'm one of those. But before I proceed, let me share to you Definitions of Vegetarians from The Vegetarian Manifesto by Cheryl Perry, Leslie Lytle and Teresa Jacobs.

Definitions of Vegetarians:

There's certainly diversity among vegetarians. Almost all avoid eating meat, though some will eat fish and others will consume fish and chicken. Then there are those
who avoid milk, fish, animal by-products or anything that is cooked. It all comes down to personal choice. If you want to put yourself in a category, check out the following descriptions of the different types of vegetarians.

vegan: Avoids consuming all foods of animal origin, including eggs, dairy, gelatin and honey. Also refrains from wearing animal products, such as leather shoes or wool and silk clothes.

lacto-ovo vegetarian: Avoids eating the flesh of animals but will eat eggs(ovo) and dairy(lacto) products. A lacto-vegetarian will eat dairy products but not eggs and an ovo-vegetarian will eat eggs and dairy.

pesco-vegetarian: will eat fish but avoids eating other animal flesh.

raw foodist: eats a large uncooked diet, or a completely uncooked diet. Such diets consist of fruits, vegetables, sprouts, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, and fresh juices.

pollo-vegetarian: will eat chicken but not other animal flesh.

semi-vegetarian : mostly avoids eating meat , chicken, and fish, but will eat them occasionally.

freegan : A vegan consumer who will eat food containing eggs or dairy, but only when it is free of cost and would otherwise be wasted.

fruitarian : Eats only the fruits from plants, grains , nuts, seeds, legumes, tomatoes, and eggplant.

sproutarian : Eats primarily sprouted seeds such as bean, wheat or broccoli sprouts
